Conscious Embodiment

Conscious Embodiment is a practice developed by Wendy Palmer Sensei of California that explores centre and habitual patterns through the body.

Wendy Palmer is a 6th degree black belt in aikido with a strong meditation background. Similar to Holistics, Conscious Embodiment could be described as a somatic study or mind, body spirit exercise. She currently has few students outside the States so I was lucky this Wednesday to take a class with Matthew Dodwell in London who has trained in Conscious Embodiment with her in the States.

Conscious Embodiment uses body exercises around such themes as leading and following, and advocating and listening. Attentional states and use of the three centres (head, heart, hara) are a key part of the work. To experience a simple Conscious Embodiment exercise next time you are walking down the street try walking from each of these three centres in turn and feel the difference.

I wish Mathew, John Watters (who is partnering with Wendy in March) and the fledgling Conscious Embodiment community in the UK success and would recommend checking them out. Wendy will be in the UK taching Conscious Embodiment in March. Details. There are Conscious Embodiment classes starting in Bath and London lead by Matthew and he will be guest instructing the Holistics class on Thursday 21st of February in Brighton.
