Some times called a movement meditation, Authentic Movement cultivates a contemplative frame of mind, clarity of perception and responsive movement and stillness of body and mind. The particular relationship between mover and witness, in moving and being seen by another, creates a non-judgemental and powerful framework within which this work takes place. Authentic Movement is practiced individually or in a group with an experienced teacher\/witness. When more experienced movers are taught to become witnesses themselves, they continue working with this method in peer groups and diads.&#8221; <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><strong>source: <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.authenticmovement.org\/\">http:\/\/www.authenticmovement.org\/<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div><em style=\"FONT-STYLE: italic\">I&#8217;ve recently experienced a couple<\/em><span style=\"FONT-STYLE: italic\"> of classes billed as &#8220;Expression Through Movement&#8221; in Brighton and based largely on Autehtic Movement. I was curious about how having someone watch (witness) would effect how I moved. Also what exactly was &#8220;authentic&#8221; movement &#8211; movement coming from a deep <\/span>unconscious<span style=\"FONT-STYLE: italic\"> impulse and could I do it after years of movement training. What I found was that witnessing <\/span>empathically<span style=\"FONT-STYLE: italic\"> and <\/span>without<span style=\"FONT-STYLE: italic\"> judgement was itself a practice (with<\/span> reverberations to meditation and Non-Violent Communication). Also that AM is a quick and direct way to access the unconscious &#8211; as ever the body doesn&#8217;t lie!<\/p>\n<p>What I found challenging about Authentic Movement was sticking to the set method of feeding back after witnessing movement, though I also get there are safety issues here for people and a structure can help with this. For me it was also crucial to distinguish between observations (e.g. &#8220;your head moved up an<em><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_8vF1TTyV5ww\/SKRmJn7wn0I\/AAAAAAAAAnY\/Bndqhu9JBTI\/s1600-h\/womensauthenticmovement.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234420982435848002\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px\" height=\"281\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/_8vF1TTyV5ww\/SKRmJn7wn0I\/AAAAAAAAAnY\/Bndqhu9JBTI\/s320\/womensauthenticmovement.jpg\" width=\"271\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/em>d down&#8221;) and evaluations (e.g. &#8220;you bobbed like a duck&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>The classes I attended were lead by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gestaltcentre.co.uk\/about\/staff.htm\">Kay Lynn<\/a>, an experienced Authentic Movement practitioner and Gestalt therapist. I really like the integral approach she used in the classes incorporating individual movement, social dance, discussion and art.
