Perhaps the most overlooked aspect of the courses I host is the community. Peer support, connection and community is the heart of EFC, not the teachers. We avoided having one central teacher (I co-lead withFrancis Briers<\/a> and we have many guests) to emphasise this and how if students learnt from a variety of teachers they could find their own unique style, appropriate for their work and cultural context. Another aspect for us that important is service work, this is both a coursework requirement and an exam criteria. Without service personal growth doesn’t work and if it did what’s the point?
