The simple experiences often matter more

It’s typical in personal growth to focus on intensity and highs – the big tearful “breakthroughs”, the hottest baddest yoga classes, the most full-on extreme experiences… and these can have their place. I’ve also found that the simple experiences often matter more. The giving and receiving of food, the giving and receiving of appreciation, singing a silly song, taking a day off to chill, breathing when you take money from a cash-point, looking a homeless guy in the eye, etc. It ain’t just the fireworks that light us up but the many little candles.
